As a fairly new member of the art group Arwystli Artists, I enjoy our monthly gatherings to sketch and paint once a month outdoors somewhere in Powys. In the cold weather we often gather at Gregynog Hall (near Newtown) as we can always retreat inside to work if it’s too cold outside. In the parkland and woodlands surrounding the Hall, there is a beautiful Beech tree. It’s trunk is twisted and it felt very alive and powerful even though it had shed all its leaves. The autumn colours are reflected in the ground cover beneath it’s bare canopy.
